I'm very happy to announce that today is SimPictures' second anniversary!
Two years ago, on the 5th of November 2024, I launched SimPictures. The first version was very simple: it had only the essentials, such as screenshot uploads, basic screening and the home feed, plus the other core features needed to get the platform up and running.
Since then, SimPictures has received many updates, each adding new functionality, including the notification system, picture grid view with modal dialogs, image highlighting, a revamped upload form with a new flow, new picture categories, and improved screening and guidelines. One of the biggest of all was a complete refactor of the codebase. It made the code much easier to work with, significantly sped up development and made adding new features more sustainable. It was also a huge step forward for my own skills as a software developer.
SimPictures continues to evolve, and new features are always in the works. An API for external developers, extended picture search and filtering, and open-sourcing the code repository are all planned for release by the end of 2026. These three are by far the most important features on the roadmap, and once they're done, I'll have essentially completed the biggest plans I've had for this project.
As always, I'd like to thank everyone for uploading fantastic screenshots, even the ones that don't quite make it through screening. So far, we have 2,632 published screenshots and 274 members, so let's keep those numbers growing!
